Traditional Oil Painting Techniques: Seven Week Series

Fee: $100 Optional material fee $35 paid to teacher
Designed for every skill level, students will learn the time-honored techniques of traditional oil painting. We will go from initial sketch to varnished final, learning about color value and temperature as well as glazing and scumbling techniques, producing a realistic painting of inner glow and enduring beauty. Gentle but instructive critiques enable every skill level to progress. Instructor is a professional commissioned artist exhibiting 30 years on the West Coast.

June 30: To Market, To Market: Finding magazines, websites and other publications for your writing
There are thousands of magazines, newspapers and other publications out there -- do you know how to find them and how to break in? In this one night, 1.5-hour workshop, we'll uncover the clever ways to achieve freelance and essay publication. Recommended prerequisite: Getting Published: Pitch to Hit, or six months of freelance experience in local or national markets.

Time: 6:30 - 8 pm   Fee: $35

About the instructor: Lora Shinn is an award-winning professional freelance writer, specializing in travel, family, sustainable living and personal finance articles. Her work appears in a wide range of national publications, including Backpacker, KIWI, Parenting, PINK, VegNews, Wired.com and Bankrate.com. Locally, she's written for ParentMap, NWsource.com and SagaCity Media.  Lora is a member of the American Society for Journalists and Authors (ASJA).

Sew a Critter Kits by Space to Create

We have designed a kit for the beginning to intermediate sewer with a great imagination.  Each kit includes directions, templates, fleece in 2 colors, embroidery thread, stuffing, buttons, a needle and pins.  All you need is a pair of scissors to create a one-of-a-kind critter.   Kits are available at Space to Create for $15 (tax included)
