Bring your pre-schooler to the Space for some story and art time. Each week Lauren will look to a "master" to inspire the art. Children will explore different art materials and media. This is non-directed fun time to experience and play with art.

This is a golden opportunity to learn some really good, solid drawing techniques. Through careful exercises and interesting studies, the students will learn and perfect such things as tonal control, perspective, use of line to describe form, how to make something look real and solid and sit it on a surface! Over the 6 weeks course, students will come away with a new confidence in their drawing ability and also a new way of looking at the world around them.

Exploring Impressionistic Art Barb Smith Tuesday 1/10-2/14 (no class 1/24) 3:30-5:00 Ages: 6+ Fee: $100 In this class we will explore the colors of Claude Monet, create ballerina- or skate boarder - sculptures a la Degas, paint the city lights inspired by Pissarro, the gardens of Monet and more. Through a variety of exercises and projects students will explore some of the different media and techniques used by Impressionist artists. Kids should come ready to explore and have fun.
Expressionism Barb Smith Tuesdday 2/28-3/27 3:30-5:00 Fee: $100
Students will explore the many facets of expressionistic art. Through a variety of projects, students will learn how to express emotions through art. We will paint, print, collage, paper mache and splatter our way through the world of Van Gogh, Munch, Kirchner, Kandinsky and Pollock.
Picasso, Matisse, and Calder: Abstract Art Barb Smith Tuesday 4/3-5/8 Fee: $100 Have you seen the amazing collection of Picasso's work at the Seattle Art Museum? What does it mean? What is that? Students will explore abstract art through various projects: cutout collages inspired by Matisse; mobiles inspired by Calder;abstract faces inspired by Picasso and monoprints inspired by Gorky.

Machine Sewing 101 Lauren Molloy-Johnson Thursday, 1/12 4:00-5:30 Fee:$20 (includes all materials) Ages: 8 and up
Are you interested in learning to sew using a machine? Come to this introductory class to get started. We will go through the basics of the machine, how to thread the machine, fill a bobbin and practice straight sewing. If you are interested in other sewing machine class we strongly recommend this class.
Valentines/Card Making Lauren Molloy-Johnson Thursday 2/9 4-5:30 Fee: $20 Ages: K and up
Come spend an afternoon or two making cards and valentines. We will learn several techniques including stamping, hand sewing paper and pop-up for unique and handmade cards. Bring your class list if you would like.

Modern Art Sculpture Class Debi Boyette Saturday 1/28- 2/18 10:00 - 11:00 Fee: $75 Ages: Kindergarten and up
Your child will be working hands on with an array of materials and techniques playing with color and placement along the way. We'll explore texture, form, lines and balance while using techniques including building with found objects and recycled materials. The sky is the limit with a little imagination! Sculptures will be made in medium scale and will be either a wall hanging or freestanding, perfect for your table top or garden.

Let’s Try It All! Barb Smith Tuesday, 10/4 - 12/13 3:30-5:00 Fee: $200 or $20 per class (rolling enrollment) Ages: 1st – 5th grade During this class we will “try it all” including drawing, painting, wire sculpture, sewing, print making, jewelry making and plaster wrap. Each week we will look to artists such as Calder, Picasso, Miro, O’Keefe, and van Gogh for inspiration. Student will be encouraged (though not required) to focus on one subject matter, resulting in a varied body of work in style and substance. All levels welcome—it will be great fun.
Silk Painting Nina Crampton Monday, 11/7-12/12 4-5:30 Ages: 3rd and up Fee: $100 includes $10 material fee
This is a very old but incredible satisfying form of painting. In this series of 5 weeks, you will learn how to stretch silk onto a frame. Use a resist called gutta, to draw with then use brilliantly colored dyes to paint with. It does not matter if you are not very confident at drawing- we have secret ways to help with that part. Once you have a go at this technique, you will want to do it all the time. It is very very fun and looks great. The paintings can make great gifts. Come and have a go!
Session I: Jewelry Making and Wire Work During this session we will make jewelry using all kids of materials including wire, polymer clay, yarn, shrinky dinks and glass beads. Students will learn techniques such as wire wrapping, crimping, macramé, and more…It will be great fun.
Paper Mache Creations with Barb Smith Fee: $60
Bring your kids to The Space to make the easiest pet you will ever own. We will use wire, mesh, paper, paste, paint and assorted materials to bring to life fanciful (or realistic) creatures. Kids should come prepared to get gooey. All 3 classes will be required to complete project.
Clock Making Nina Crampton Ages: 2nd grade and up Fee: $45 includes $5 materials fee
Make your own clock from an old vinyl record. Don't know what those are? Ask your parents...they were used to store music. Now we can use them as part of a fun project. In 2 sessions you will see how to manipulate the plastic, decorate your clock surface and learn how the components of a clock get put together to make your own really cool clock that can either hang on the wall or off a shelf. Think of Salvador Dali's melting clocks and you have it.
Manga Posters Nina Crampton Ages: 3rd grade and up Fee:$60
This is a very fun project in which you choose your favorite Manga character and blown it up BIG so it can hang on your wall. We make stencils so that you can spray paint a background to your character and finally add lots of detail and charm to make your person (animal) just sparkle for you. This involves some careful drawing, cutting and working to a deadline. The results are amazing!

In this class students will delve into some of the techniques that create realistic drawing including line drawing, shading and proportion. Techniques will be taught through fun exercises and projects. The approach is very relaxed and fun.
Bookmaking for Kids Nina Crampton Ages 7 and up Fee:$60
Come and learn some basic bookmaking techniques and have some fun creating hard and soft bound books, both sewn and glued, create a number of beautiful and unusual book structures with cut outs and pop ups. No previous experience is necessary.

Turning the real upside down and sometimes even inside out. We will delve into the distorted, dream-like world of Dali; create mysterious scenes like Rene Magritte; create collographs of creatures like that of Miro; and collage inspired by Frida Kahlo.
In this class students will learn different forms of printmaking: including linoleum blocks, monoprints, nature (leaves and feathers) printing and fabric printing. Student will be able to experiment with this fun art through various projects. Messy clothes are strongly recommended!
Children's Mural Class Christie West Next session TBA 3:30 - 5:30 Fee: $120
Create a painted mural using your own unique drawing. Children will draw a picture that will be projected and traced onto a loose canvas ready for them to paint on. Translucent glazes will be used, introducing color mixing and shadows by layering the paint.
