2 Day Adult Workshop with Nina Crampton
Paper Marbling and Journal Making
Friday 2/10 7-9pm

Fee: $80
 
 You know how we all love to playwith water? Now you have a legitimate reason with an exiting outcome!
Float dye on the surface of water and print in the ancient technique of marbling.Select your most exquisite outcomes  to make a beautiful journal the following day.



Watercolor for Adults Susan Schneider
Thursday 3/1 - 4/5     7-9pm
Fee: $100                  Ever wanted to try watercolors? This class takes away the mystery and allows you to learn the skills needed in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Work from still lifes and study techniques such as laying washes, pulling out color and creating an effective composition. Leave understanding complementay colors, transparent vs opaque watercolors and how to rescue an overworked painting. Come and join the fun.


 Susan Schneider is well-known in the Seattle area for her relaxed and friendly approach to teaching students who are absolute beginners or who may not have painted in a long time. She works with each student to help them discover the
"artist within". She teaches at the Ballard and Greenwood Senior Centers, Senior Retirement Homes, and North Seattle Community College.

Silk Scarf Painting with Nina Crampton
Saturday, November 19th 1-5pm                       Fee: $45 includes 1 scarf, $5 per extra scarf
Come and have fun experimenting with this colorful and user friendly technique. The possibilities are endless - no previous experience is required, just a willingness to play with color and design! You will take home a scarf ready to wash and wear- will make a perfect gift ! The class itself would make an ideal gift to a creative friend! Dress for mess  and  bring a sense of adventure.

Felt Slipper Workshop

Saturday, Oct 29th      12-4pm                     Fee: $50  

Please join me as we make slippers using felt from recycled wool sweaters! All classes are suitable for adults and require no special expertise, just the desire to come play with fiber for a few hours in a friendly, relaxed setting.

In this 4 hour workshop we will trace our feet, select and cut out the wool pattern pieces and sew up a unique pair of slippers using the humble ingredients of felted wool, needle and tapestry thread. Expect to finish one slipper during class and have the second one partially sewn to finish at home.  

Ukrainian Egg Workshop with Aliza Corrado

Fee: Adults: $25 plus $8.00 supply fee
Children: $10 plus $8.00 supply fee
(One adult per child, please)

Just in time for Easter and Passover, come learn the ancient Eastern European art of egg decorating. Enjoy this fun and meditative process of drawing designs on eggs with beeswax, then dipping them in vibrant colors in a process similar to batik. After several dippings, you remove the wax and voila, a beautiful surprise!

Exploring Acrylics for Beginners and Intermediates

The fun, easy- to- learn use of acrylic paints will be explored in this 4-week class. Emphasis will be  on understand and practicing the different  applications of acrylic techniques and colors using simple still lifes.  Guidance in choosing paper and canvas, synthetic brushes, color pigments, mediums, gels, etc. will be given along with handouts and demonstrations. Please bring any acrylic paints, canvas, watercolor paper, paper palette or dinner plate,acrylic or bristle brushes to the first class.  Paints will be supplied to students who do not have any for the first class.

Silk Paintings for adults and teens

If you have never tried this technique, then you must! It is incredible rewarding and fun no matter what your abilities or artistic background. You will learn how to stretch silk, draw with a resist called gutta. Finally the best and most fun part of the whole process, paint and blend color using vibrant silk dyes. Your finished pieces will astound your family and friends and you will have been bitten by the bug and want to do more. In this 5 week session you accomplish a great level of self satisfaction as this technique is great for all levels. Come and relax and enjoy a new passion!

Bookmaking
Nina Crampton

Come and learn some basic bookmaking techniques and have some fun creating hard and soft bound books, both sewn and glued, create a number of beautiful and unusual book structures with cut outs and pop ups. No previous experience is necessary.
 

Hand Dyed Silk Scarves

     $60 for both session and includes 2 scarves

Make beautiful silk scarves using a modified batik technique.  This easy-to-learn technique uses cold water dyes and soy wax as a resist and is loaded with design possibilities.  You will bring home a finished scarf ready to wash out and wear. This makes the perfect holiday gift.  Bring an apron or clothes you can get messy and prepare for fun.






Wet Carved Concrete

We are excited to have a guest teacher, Elder Jones from Tennessee at The Space to teach his unique technique of wet carved concrete.  In this 3 day workshop he will work with students to construct a mold, fabricate tools and carve a beautiful planter or sculpture.  Please view his work at www.sandpudding.com.

"Get to Know Your Machine"
Machine Sewing for Adults

Do you have a sewing machine you would like to use? Or are you thinking about buying one? Any old projects your would like to finish up?  This is the class for you. Mara will lead the class thru basic machine sewing techniques. You can bring your machine from home or use one here. 

 

Potions and Lotion

Lip balm, sugar scrub and lotions

Come make some great gifts and spend time with your child. You will create lip balms, sugar scrub and lotions. All products are made with the finest ingredients including mango butter, sweet almond oil, beeswax and more. Essential oils and flavoring can be added from an endless assortment. Custom make a label, shrink wrap and add a bow and you have a perfect gift.


Holiday Jewelry for Kids and Adults

 Come spend a Saturday afternoon making jewelry that you will be proud to wrap for a
gift or even keep for yourself.  This class is designed for adults and children to work together on their projects.  We will be using simple stringing techniques to make bracelets, necklaces and earrings.

Beadfuddled: Jewelry Design and Re-Design Workshop

Just Mend It!

Need a little help with your mending?  Bring it ALL to this hands on workshop.  I’ll show you show to sew on buttons, fix hems, repair holes and more.  Find out about all the innovative products to repair your clothes.  I will even show you how to “add a few inches” to your children’s pants length. Pants don’t grow, but kids do, and fast.  No sewing experience needed.

Pillow Case / Sewing Basics

Learn to sew up a standard pillowcase of any fabric to match your mood.  This class will use basic sewing skills and a coordinating trio of fabrics.  Create a pillowcase for a holiday, pick a hobby as a theme, or just whatever fabric strikes your fancy. Please bring pre-washed, cotton fabric in increments of 1/8 yd, 1/3 yd and 3/4 yd.  The smallest will be a trim, the next the band and the 3/4yd the main part of the pillowcase.

No sewing experience needed.

Knitting for Beginners (or those needing a refresher course)

Sue will teach the basics and work toward completing a simple project.  Students will have their choice of three projects: a scarf, a hat or a purse to work from.  Students will need to purchase needles and yarn in advance of class.  A supply list will be provided upon registration.  Sign up for single sessions ok.





Mosaic Mirrors

Why should the kids have all of the messy fun?  Join in the fun of designing, affixing and grouting a mosaic mirror.  You can go realistic or abstract, symmetrical or random-- you are the designer.  Dress for mess.

A Grocery Bag of Your Own/Sewing Basics
with Mara Lim
Fee: $25 + bring your own material

One way to go green is to bring your own grocery bags when you shop.  There are many cheap, ugly bags covered with store advertising available for your purchase.  But why settle?  Show off your style; sew up your own shopping bag.  This workshop will cover some sewing machine basics and you will leave with your very own bag.

No sewing experience needed.

Bring ½ yard of cotton or cotton/polyester fabric, in your choice of design.
Please wash and dry your fabric BEFORE class.


Sketching and Acrylics for Adults

You have a blank canvas and really want to fill it, but don't know where to start.  This class is your answer.  Students will focus on creating composition by sketching and then advancing to the painting of their image at their own pace.  Michelle will give lots of personal guidance.  If you have an image or object you wish to work from bring it along, otherwise we will have plenty of ideas on hand.  All levels welcome.  For those returning students, this is a way to take it to the next level.


Paper Mache Creations

When was the last time you played with flour paste?  In this class you will make your own creation out of chicken wire and other objects, cover it with newspaper and paper mache paste and watch it come to life.  Come ready to make a mess.


Earring Making Class

Fee: $45 (includes materials to make 3 pairs of earrings.  Additional materials available for purchase.)

In this class you will learn how to make a pair of earrings using basic wire wrapping techniques.  You will have your choice of 3 styles of earrings and a wide variety of stones and beads.  "Kits" will be available to help in the design process.


Treasure Necklace Class

Have you looked at a fashion magazine lately?  The latest trend in necklaces is chains and beads with a cascade of mixed dangles.  These necklaces can be as simple or fanciful as you like.  Join us for an evening of fun and glamour as you create your own Treasure Necklace.

If you have your own "treasures" feel free to bring them.  The instructor has many beads, chains and special treasure for purchase, all below retail cost.  All experience levels welcome.




Spiral Pendant Class

In this class you will learn how to make a beautiful spiral pendant.  You will work with sterling silver and have your choice of semi-precious stones or fresh water pearls to make your pendant unique. You will coil and wire wrap your way to a finished product by the end of class.  All levels welcome.
